Learn more about nature

  • The Eco Fest is the place to share ideas and information that’ll accelerate our community’s shift towards greener and healthier living. There is a packed programme of free activities on the day starting at 12 noon.

Learn about composting and its benefits; learn which plants to grow that will really help insects like bees flourish; learn about birds and their eating habits. Meet local experts on hedgehogs, bees, birds and much more. Get your 30 day nature challenge off to a great start!

  • Come along to Croft Close Set-aside (CB24 9HU) between 8:30 and 11am to see, close up, moths collected over night. If we are lucky like last year you can expect to see several kinds of big hawkmoths. Our bird experts will be demonstrating how they ring birds to collect valuable data on how birds are doing – really important when so many species are in trouble.

For more information check the Abbey Fields website.

  • We are running sessions at the Abbey Fields sites at various dates and times over the summer to tie in with Butterfly Conservation’s national Big Butterfly count.

We provide the identification and recording sheets. Come and be a citizen scientist for an hour. See the calendar of events on the Abbey Fields website for dates and times.

  • Nature-based activities and events will be held in and around Cambridge and will include BioBlitzes, guided nature wanders, wildlife ID workshops, art installations, bat safaris and much more.
