Easy Easyfundraising

HIGS aims to raise sufficient funds each year to cover operating expenses. One way that supporters help us do this – at no cost to them - is through easyfundraising. David Berry explains: When you purchase an item from shops such as John Lewis, Apple or Screwfix, (these are just the ones I use regularly) they donate some percentage of the purchase price to your designated charity. easyfundraising lists up to 8000 shops that donate. (Amazon stopped doing this a number of years back, so they are not amongst the shops that contribute.) This is enabled through online purchases. The items purchased are the same price whether or not you are donating.

Selecting HIGS and Creating an Account

The first step is to create an easyfundraising account. Here you can designate which charity you would like your donations to go to. Typing in “Histon and Impin” should bring up HIGS as one of three charities. Selecting HIGS takes you to the next set of screens where you can create your account using your e-mail address or your Facebook or Apple account if you have one. Once signed up when you purchase anything from the donating businesses they will donate some percentage of the price to HIGS. I do this mainly when shopping online and there are an amazing number of businesses that will donate. Percentages may be as small as 0.5%, but every penny counts as they say. I have so far raised about £86 over a couple of years.

Browser Plug-In

I find the easiest way to trigger a donation is to install one of the browser plugins that easyfundraising make available.

There are plugins for all of the main browsers (Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, Google Chrome and Firefox). I personally use Firefox and Google Chrome, the plugins all work in a similar manner.

Installing the plugin should be straight forward by clicking on the “Add to your browser” button.

Summary

“easyfundraising claims the following: “easyfundraising is the UK’s biggest charity shopping site

Launched in 2005, our community of over 2 million supporters have raised over £50 million for thousands of causes across the U.K.” Once you have signed up for an account and installed the browser plugin it really is easy to make donations to HIGS when you purchase from the online shops and I would encourage everyone to sign up.
