Parish Council confirms its support for Abbey Fields
At its February meeting Histon & Impington Parish (HIPC) council confirmed its support for the Abbey Fields project.
The Parish Council has been involved in the project from its early days and has played an essential role alongside Jenking Let and local resident Sally London in enabling the Abbey Fields to be acquired for the community. At the same time Histon & Impington Green Spaces (HIGS), the charity behind Abbey Fields, has been fund raising to enable it to purchase the Fields.
At this month’s meeting the Parish Council agreed to make all the costs it has incurred so far on behalf of the project a non-reimbursable contribution to the project. Furthermore it will continue to contribute in this way until HIGS has completed the purchase of the land.
HIGS has raised over £400,000 and has promises of further donations and a substantial grant. The Parish Council decision will enable it to complete the purchase and it targets doing this in April.
Rob Bensted-Smith, Chair of HIGS said: ‘this is great news and is a decisive step in the Parish Council’s invaluable support of the Abbey Fields project. We would not be where we are today without it. We can now focus on fundraising for the continuing care and maintenance of Abbey Fields.
’ Denis Payne, Chair of HIPC said: ‘this is an important step for HIGS. It’s done a great job in fund raising and it will shortly be able to take ownership of the Croft Close Set Aside, recently classified as a County Wildlife Site. HIGS will then have full responsibility for the Abbey Fields’.
