Throughout this summer a common refrain from visitors to Croft Close Set-aside was “has he found a mate?”, referring of course to the turtle dove that spent 2021 calling endlessly from treetops and TV aerials in the hope of attracting a partner.

 This year was different – and it’s good news. Although the male was present all summer long, it was much less vocal and a pair were seen in a nearby garden.
