Abbey Fields - Nature Treasure Hunt and Quiz on Long Meadow,

Easter Saturday, 16th April 2022

The weather could not have been better for the Abbey Fields Easter Saturday Treasure Hunt and Quiz activity on Long Meadow. This beautiful community space came alive as 120 children and their families arrived to learn about nature and receive a chocolate treat. All were able to fathom out, together with the help of our student and village volunteers, the diet of moles and woodpeckers; how to measure and age a tree; and how many of the great Horse Chestnut trees on the Park Lane boundary have survived compared to the 1886 OS map. More information on these questions and the nature on the site is available on the website here.

The play dough ‘make your own wildflower garden’ tent proved very popular with both children and their parents looking for a fun activity and a place to relax, and all of the beautifully made cakes were sold, raising additional funds to help keep this land in community ownership.

Along with Croft Close Set-aside, this great green space needs to be permanently secured for the community, forever. But we need your help. We need to raise a further £160,000 by 2023. You can support this vital project by donating here.

We must finish with our thanks to all the volunteers that helped make this event such a great success. We are always looking for more people to get involved and we would love to hear from you so please do get in touch if you have any questions or if you would like to help at future events – hello@abbeyfields.online

And don’t forget you can donate at our website.
