The bird life in and around Cambridge has changed a lot in our lifetimes. Once rare birds are now familiar in and around the city: some recovering from past persecutions (red kites for example), others - such as egrets - arriving as the climate changes. Set against these exciting additions, once common birds are now all too rare. House sparrows and swifts, victims of modern building practices, are no longer ubiquitous. Fields once holding flocks of golden plover, are now homes to the residents of Orchard Park.
Bob Jarman has observed this closely, most recently as co-author of the description of the city's birds in the book "The Nature of Cambridge", published by the Cambridge Natural History Society. His interest in birds was kindled in primary school, finding coastal waders on his school playing field in Arbury in the early 1960s.
An excellent photographer, Bob is sure to provide an entertaining and interesting evening!
