Advance notice of hedge works at Long Meadow
Over the next two weeks (26th February to 8th March 2024) tree surgeons will be undertaking major works on the hedge beside Park Lane. Please be aware that for safety reasons entrances from Park Lane will need to be temporarily closed, one at a time, while the team are working close by.
Recognising the importance of the Park Lane hedge as an “important countryside frontage” we have been developing plans for a staged, but full, restoration. The tree surgeons will be cutting the top of the hedge back to 2 metres above the ground level of the adjacent pavement – a bit above the head of the man in the photograph. All the arisings will be chipped on site and placed in the field under the hedge.
Prior to the work commencing in each section the hedge will be checked for possibly occupied bird nests. Should an occupied nest be found this sensitive section of hedge will be left to the autumn.
This work has been made possible by an award from Postcode Places Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
You can find details of this award and our restoration plans for the Park Lane hedge on our website here.
